09 Oct 2009 Friday - Istanbul
Arrival in İstanbul. Dinner at one of the local Restaurants located in Çiçek Pasajı- a 19th C arcade with restaurants. Overnight in İstanbul.

10 Oct 2009 Saturday - Istanbul
This morning, we drive to the Hippodrome. Famous for chariot races, this Roman stadium dates back to the time of the Emperor Constantine the Great. We then see the Blue Mosque, probably the most impressive mosque in the world. Our tour continues with the visit of Hagia Sophia Museum which was originally built as a church then converted into a mosque after the conquest in the 15th C. One of the oldest ancient buildings on Earth, this is well worth a visit.
Following lunch, we continue the day with the tour of Topkapı Palace, the imperial residence of the Ottomans. See the courtyards, a superb porcelain collection, the famous world treasury, calligraphy, Sultan's costumes and the Holy relics of Prophet Muhammed. Finish the day at the Grand Bazaar where thousands of small shops are located.
Dinner at a local Restaurant serving Turkish specialties. Overnight in İstanbul.

11 Oct 2009 Sunday -Istanbul to Cappadocia via Kayseri
After breakfast at our Hotel, we drive to the pier where we catch a ferry for a cruise on the Bosphorus between Europe and Asia. You can admire magnificent views of the Bosphorus where numerous palaces, mansions are located as well as the Rumeli Fortress. This was built by Sultan Mehmet the Conquerer as part of the preparations of his campaign to capture Istanbul.We land on the European side about half way up the Bosphorus.
Lunch during the tour.

In the afternoon, we drive across the Bosphorus over the Bosphorus Bridge to Beylerbeyi Palace. Built around 1860s, this was the summer residence of the Imperial family.
Drive to the airport for a late afternoon flight to Kayseri. Dinner and overnight in Kayseri.

12 Oct 2009 Monday - Cappadocia
We spend the day visiting Kaymakli Underground City, Goreme Open Air Museum where you will find rock cut churches decorated with frescoes bearing biblical scenes. Then we continue to

Zelve Open Air Museum, Uchisar and Avcilar Valleys. We also see the unusual formations of fairy chimneys, columns of rock shaped by nature. Lunch during the tour. Dinner and overnight in Cappadocia.

13 Oct 2009 Tuesday - Cappadocia to Antalya via Konya
Morning start and drive to Konya. On the way, we visit Sultanhani Caravanserai built by Seljuk Turks.
Upon arrival in Konya, we have lunch at a local Restaurant where we can taste "etli ekmek" of Konya. We then make a visit to the Mausoleum of Mevlana. Mevlana was the founder of the Mevlevi Sect and lived in Konya in 13th Century. Today, his followers are spread all around the world and we all admire impressive performances of the whirling dervishes of this sect. After lunch in Konya, we drive to Antalya over Taurus mountains and arrive in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight in Antalya.

14 Oct 2009 Wednesday - Antalya
MAFS Congress and day tour of Perge, Aspendos and Side

This morning, we travel east to the ancient city of Perge which was settled after the Trojan War on the site of an earlier settlement. Here you can find the ruins of a basilica where the Apostle Paul, arriving from Cyprus, met Barnabus and is said to have won his first converts. We continue eastward to Aspendos set on the banks of the Eurynedan River to view the mainly Roman ruins of this acropolis. Settlement of this city dates from the Hittite Empire but here you can see the best-preserved Roman Theatre in Turkey.

Following lunch, We drive to Side and visit the ruins of this Roman city in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight in Antalya.

15 Oct 2009 Thursday - Antalya
MAFS Congress and day tour of Phaselis.

Breakfast at your hotel. We drive to the ancient city of Phaselis located in the west of Antalya. Phaselis was an important city of the region in the Roman times and it served as a coastal city with its harbors. Lunch during the tour. Dinner and overnight in Antalya.

16 Oct 2009 Friday - Antalya
MAFS Congress and day tour of Duden Waterfalls and Termessos.
Drive to Termessos in the morning. Set on the Taurus Mountains, this Psidian city is one of the most beautiful archaeological sites in Turkey.

Following lunch, we also visit Duden Waterfalls. Return to Antalya at the of the day. Dinner and overnight in Antalya.

17 Oct 2009 Saturday - Antalya
MAFS Congress and day tour of Antalya Museum and City Center.
Another day in Antalya and drive to Antalya Museum that holds a superb collection of antiqiuties found in the ancient sites around Antalya.
Spend the rest of the day in Antalya exploring the city Center where we also have late lunch. Dinner and overnight in Antalya.

18 Oct 2009 Sunday - Antalya to Pamukkale
Drive to Pamukkale over the Taurus Mountains in the morning. Lunch en route. Arrive at Pamukkalein the early hours of the afteroon.
Located on the natural rock formations of Pamukkale, Hierapolis served as a thermal resort of the ancient times. Its Roman ruins consist of baths, a theatre and an impressive colonnaded avenue.
Dinner and overnight in Pamukkale.

19 Oct 2009 Monday - Pamukkale to Kusadasi via Ephesus
After breakfast at your Hotel, we will drive to the House of Virgin Mary located at the top of a mountain near Ephesus.
We then continue with the tour of the ancient site of Ephesus, one of the most important cities of antiquity. We are going to visit the third settlement dating back to the Hellenistic and Roman times. Ephesus still is well preserved with its magnificent buildings such as Celsus Library, the
Great Theatre, Hadrian's Temple, Trojan's Fountain, State and Commercial Agoras, Marble Road, Curetes Street.

Following lunch, we will visit the Ephesus Museum and finally drive to the nearby picturesque village of Sirince. We have an early evening dinner in Sirince and at the end of our tour, we drive to Izmir.

20 Oct 2009 Tuesday - Izmir to Canakkale via Pergamum
We start our day from Izmir and drive to Bergama to visit the Acropolis and the Aesclepium of Pergamum.

We will first visit the Acropolis set on top of a steep hill approximately 400 meters above sea level. Famous for its Trajan Temple, library and Zeus Altar, Pergamum Acropolis still reflects its former glory. Its library once was as important as its rival in Alexandria.Lunch in Bergama town Center.
Afterwards, we continue to the Aesclepium of Pergamum. Linked to the Lower Roman City of Pergamum by a ceremonial road, Aesclepium served as an ancient medical Center dedicated to the God of Healing, Aesclepius and his daughter Hygenia.
We drive to Canakkale for the rest of the afternoon and arrive at our Hotel near Canakkale where we finish our day. Dinner and overnight in Canakkale.

21 Oct 2009 Wednesday - Canakkale to Troy and back
We spend our day in Troy area and drive to Troy, the legendary site of Homer where one of the most famous battles of history took place. We will have a detailed tour of the area in the morning.
We then return to our Hotel for lunch and following lunch, we spend the rest of the day in the Center of Canakkale. Dinner and overnight in Canakkale.

22 Oct 2009 Thursday - Canakkale to Istanbul via Gallipoli
We cross the Dardanelles early in the morning to the European side. We visit the War Memorials on the Gallipoli Peninsula. Here, Turkish and Anzac soldiers fought during the WW1 in 1915. Among the places we will visit are Anzac Cove, Lone Pine Cemetery and the small local museum with finds from the battlefields displayed. Continue driving to Istanbul arriving later in the afternoon. Overnight in Istanbul

23 Oct 2009 Friday - Istanbul
Spend the day in Istanbul visiting the bazaars. Lunch during the tour at Havuzlu Restaurant locaten in the Grand Bazaar. Farewell Dinner and overnight in Istanbul
